Under 9s Shield Final – Eccleshall Eagles Yellow versus Stafford Rangers Juniors
Match Report
Stafford Rangers Juniors U9'S were crowned the new U9's Mid Staffs Shield winners after a closely fought final at Rowley Park Stadium against Eccleshall Eagles Yellow on Sunday 5th April 2009.
It was the Eagles of Eccleshall who made the early chances and the Rangers goalie, Jake Cawkwell was forced to pull off a string of heroic saves. Eccleshall continued to push to open the scoring but Cawkwell was resolute and the tie remained goal less. Top of the league Rangers, then began to apply their own pressure and in form striker, Tyler Masters, went close twice.
Just prior to the half time whistle, some slick passing between Will Byers and Sam Clark, allowed Clark the freedom to advance up the pitch before he released the ball to the eager Tyler Masters. Masters then slotted home with a fine finish.
In the second half, the many fans were treated to more exciting, end to end and often, nail biting action. However, Rangers kept their heads and defended well to secure the win!
Final score Eccleshall Eagles Yellow 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 1.
When asked about his team’s achievement, Rangers under 9s Manager, Andrew Cartwright, said “I am ecstatic at this result and am so proud of the lads, especially because we are a newly formed team this season. Winning this trophy is an acknowledgment of our hard work and great team spirit”. Rangers will now push on in their efforts to secure the Premier League title.
