U13s 'Rangers' Match Reports
Sunday 29th November 09
Newcastle Rovers Vs Stafford Rangers FC (LEAGUE CUP)
Final Score 2-1 to Newcastle Rovers
A great first ten minutes Rangers, with the flow of play going our way and some tremendous passing, in particular down the left wing. After one such attack, Ashley Jones connected with the ball, managing to eventually get it in. Excellent stuff lads!
Newcastle were having none of it though, they came straight back at Rangers and scored five minutes later, 1-1. The rest of the first half was a ‘see-saw’ of attacks and counter attacks by both sides, with Newcastle getting their second and winning goal around the thirty minute mark.
The second half was played out in the same fashion, but remained goalless. Both teams put outstanding effort into the match, but Newcastle were just a little too strong on the day.
It was very difficult once again to pick out a Rangers man of the match, because you all clearly tried so hard, but Tom Martin had the edge today – well done Tom!

Stafford Rangers FC Vs Stafford Town
Final Score 2-0 to Stafford Rangers FC
Another good result for the Rangers U13’s, we always find them a tricky team to play, so it was a great final score line.
It wasn’t until about twenty minutes into the first half, that we started to make an increasing impact on the game, more so than Stafford Town. Five minutes later, a positive push forward from Rangers, a lovely weighted final ball from Ryan Land, Ashley Jones found himself on side, and having beaten Town’s defence, blasted it home in the corner – 1-0 Stafford Rangers – great goal. The first half finished with the remaining majority of play going Rangers way.
The second half started fairly uneventfully and a bit scrappy, but again Stafford Rangers created the most chances as the match progressed. Then nearly fifty five minutes into the game Ethan Mould took control of the ball, from a corner, in the six yard box. Despite a struggle, he turned and cracked the ball in – terrific goal – 2-0 the Rangers.
Again today’s game finished controversially. Rangers pushed forward, James Clayton received the ball in the six yard box after several attempts on goal by Matthew Downes and Ethan Mould, were saved by their keeper and blocked by one of their players. James persisted and half volleyed it in the net, it looked a superb goal, but eventually it was disallowed by the referee. Again, terrible luck James, bad luck Rangers, we could do with the goal difference no matter how small!
A great effort by Ethan Mould on his birthday, gave him Man of the Match – well done!
Sunday 15th November 09
Penkridge Juniors Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 2-0 to Stafford Rangers FC
Another tremendous afternoons entertainment watching Stafford Rangers play Penkridge Juniors, and gaining an excellent result out of it to!
From the first whistle until ten minutes in, both teams were evenly matched, then the Rangers stepped up a gear, passing the ball better, pushing forward more. Around fifteen minutes into the game, James Clayton out on the left wing, delivered a great throwing into their area which Mike Milsom flicked on for Howard Goodall to volley straight in the net beating their keeper at the near post, 1-0 Rangers. It was a superbly worked goal from all three players, leaving the Juniors dazed!
Penkridge try as they did, still did not make any real impression on Stafford Rangers, who kept the pressure turned up for the rest of the first half.
The second half went the same way for the Rangers, who never let up. Penkridge made one notable break having a good shot on goal, producing an outstanding one handed save from Tom Bailey, Stafford’s keeper. Then came Rangers second goal – a good break - passed out to Callum Jones on the right wing. Callum ran with it and had a cracking shot on goal, it was to hard for their keeper to hold, who parried it away, only for Ashley Jones to pounce and put in the back of the net – 2-0 Safford U13’s and a great victory.
It was a brilliant sustained performance by Stafford, a true team performance by every player and one for them to be very proud of, particularly against a team like Penkridge Juniors.
Man of the Match went to Mike Milsom – well deserved Mike!
Sunday 8th November 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Newcastle Rovers
Final Score 1-0 to Newcastle Rovers
Well lads it has to be said, it seems such an unfair result in more ways than one, and for one of those reasons I will come to later on.
Firstly though, Newcastle are a big, physical team, more so than Rangers. They always bring the best out of Stafford and that happened today! Rangers started slightly slower, but soon began to dominate Newcastle, playing better flowing football and by the end of the first half, despite being 0-0, Rangers were in control.
Again the second half began well for Stafford, commanding the game, mainly in the Rovers half. Then around the fifty minute mark, a lapse of concentration, a few justified moments of tiredness by the Rangers, whatever, suddenly Newcastle were 1-0 up! However Stafford didn’t just roll over and kept on battling and this brings me to the other reason why todays result seemed unfair for the Rangers.
Minutes from the end Rangers found themselves with a long range free kick. After brief discussion, Ryan Land stepped up to take the kick – and a great kick it was to, hard, high, and with a slight curl, dipping straight over the goalie and in. All the parents and coaching staff thought it was a good goal, even the young referee to begin with. But the linesman in their half, who was also one of their coaches, raised his flag claiming infringements on their goal keeper, he won the decision despite the referee being close to the action- so the goal was disallowed.
The ref later admitted to our coaches, after reasonable appeal, that he felt, ‘under pressure’.
I know how I read into that! Terrible bad luck Rangers, a fantastic team performance and in particular by Ethan Mould who went on to become man of the match, as voted by the all of parents.
Sunday 1st November 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs FC Perton (SOUTH STAFFS CUP)
Final Score 6-1 to Stafford Rangers FC
Another good team performance today lads, excellent, consistent play throughout the first half, led to Rangers being 5-0 up and out-classing Perton F.C. The first goal came from Calum Jones, a great dipping half volley on the right wing, from twenty yards out. Next came Matthew Downes hat- trick,a series of well taken shots and ‘dinks’ around the keeper. Ashley Jones kept his hand in, with a great last moment charge in, to tap it past the keeper. Tremendous stuff lads and great to watch!
The second half started well again for Rangers, making great play around the field, dominating the match. Then around the fifty-fifth minute Ryan Land made an opportunity for a long range shot, which he promptly took – 6-0 Rangers. A slightly over confident Rangers side eased off a bit then, and paid the price, allowing Perton to get a goal in the closing minutes of the game. Never the less a superb result!
Man of the match – Ryan Land, well done.
Sunday 18th October 09
Newcastle Rovers Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 3-0 to Newcastle Rovers
Rangers and Newcastle were very evenly matched in the first fifteen minutes, Rangers in fact had more corners. Then approaching the twenty minute mark, Newcastle made a good break and a few passes later had scored, 1-0 the Rovers. Rangers contained and harried Newcastle and had the odd chance on goal, but the Rovers had more of the play, and more missed chances.
The second half started very closely played again, it was a tightly fought, thrilling game. Then Newcastle got the break they had been looking for again, and with a good, dipping shot, from some distance went 2-0 up.
Rangers went on the attack but just didn’t get the breaks, with such a big physical team as Newcastle, it was hard. Then just minutes from the end, with a free kick awarded to them, the Rovers managed to just beat Rangers off side trap, and get a toe to the ball, to make it 3-0 to Newcastle.
Man of the Match – Howard Goodhall, very well done Howard!
Sunday 11th October 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Brewood Juniors
Final Score 11-1 to Stafford Rangers FC
Another tremendous result from Stafford Rangers FC U13’s!
From the first whistle our lads just went for it, the ball hardly being out of the Juniors half. Brewood tried, but just couldn’t get going and near the twenty minute mark Matthew Downes was through after some great build up play, and then a good final pass from Howard Goodhall, Matthew made sure the ball was in the back of the net, 1-0 Rangers.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 to Rangers after Matthew Downes scored what has to be described as the goal of the season so far, a cracking right foot shot from a very narrow angle out on the right wing – suberb effort ! Rangers ended the first half 2-0 up.
The second half became a ‘goal - fest’ for Stafford, they were just too good for Brewood who couldn’t contain them, despite some good efforts. Matthew Downes got three more goals, James Clayton got two good goals, Ashley Jones got a hat-trick, and Howard Goodhall one, an outstanding combined team effort! Brewoods goal came around the fifty minute mark.
Man of the Match – Howard Goodhall, a great effort!
Sunday 04th October 09
Kinver Colts (SOUTH STAFFS CUP) Vs Stafford Ranger FC
Final Score 6-2 to Stafford Rangers
A superb opening game in the cup rounds lads, against Kinver Colts on their home turf, a good journey that is!
Ashley Jones opened the scoring early on for Rangers, finishing off a good pass from Howard Goodhall with a cracking half volley into the back of the net. Rangers kept up the work rate and were rewarded five minute before half time, keeper Tom Bailey planted a great kick out to Tom Martin, he skilfully laid it on for Ashley Jones who scored with a cracking left footer. Two nil to Rangers.
Stafford were on a roll, less than ten minutes into the second half, Matthew Downes teased the ball round their keeper and over the line for goal number three. Ethan Mould, Rangers captain got goal four. It came from a corner ball in, with Ethan stretching out for a half volley straight in the net again.
Despite Kinver getting two goals in the second half, there was no stopping Rangers or Ashley Jones, who got goals five and six, his hat-trick plus one! Well done Ashley, well done Stafford U13’s, great team effort!
Man of the match Ashley Jones, congratulations.
Sunday 27th September 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Berkswich FC
Final Score 8-1 to Stafford Rangers FC
Rangers got off to a terrific start with Callum Jones scoring a great goal on the 10 minute mark – it was just the beginning. Five minutes later Matthew Downes scored, three minutes after Michael Milsom whipped a cross in, one of their defenders got his head to the ball which ended up in the back of the net. Less than five minutes later Ashley Jones scored then Adam Bakewell and not long before half time Callum Jones got his second – Rangers sixth!
Although Berkswich missed a penalty, they were just kept out of the game by our lads. Great half time score line.
Rangers began the second half full of confidence, with Callum Jones cruising through and scoring a hat trick, Rangers seventh – the lads were really enjoying themselves! In the closing stages Adam Bakewell got the eighth for SRFC – Berkswich scoring their only goal from a corner, a few minutes before the final whistle.
Man of the Match – Ryan Land, well done!
Sunday 20th September 09
Stafford Town Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 3-2 to SRFC
First game of the season (due to only playing a friendly last week), Rangers got off to a good start with Mike Milsom scoring on the 7th minute. Just a few minutes later Rangers had a penalty awarded – the captain Ethan Mould slotted it home expertly in the bottom left corner. Rangers had some good possession for the mid section of the first half, but then a few careless mistakes saw them concede a goal 5 minutes from half time.
The first 20 minutes of the second half started positively for Rangers, but again, as in the first half they didn’t put chances away when they should have done. Around the hour mark Stafford Town scored the equaliser, and then in the last few minutes of play Ash Jones made a good run and blasted it past the keeper!
Man of the Match – Ash Jones, well played Ash!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James Clayton who plays for Stafford Rangers U12's climbed Snowdon with his family and raised £ 321.00 for our club - a fantastic individual achievement especially as he did it in Sunday 7th June in extremely difficult weather conditions.
Wednesday 6th May 09
Newcastle Rovers Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 5-3 to Stafford Rangers FC
Well lads, what a truly superb team performance and score line for the last game of the season against Newcastle, and on their home turf to, and just after a tiring tournament weekend!
From the off you just went for it. Mike scored a stunning header from a great corner taken by Ads on 3 minutes. Less than 15 minutes later, with some quick- fire passing, and the ball well in their half, Matt made a great cross through their defence for Ads to shoot and make it 2-0. Newcastle were in shock! However, with 5 coaching staff screaming at them, Newcastle’s determination paid off, and on 25 and 27 minutes they were drawing 2-2, it was becoming a ‘nail-biter’. How did Rangers react – they scored a minute later, Matt being the scorer, making it 3-2 to Rangers. Newcastle had to dig really deep again, and less than 10 minutes later scored their third, what a game!
Did Rangers give in and fold, no, they showed great resolve and ‘true grit,’ passing the ball forward all the time, outpacing Newcastle, enabling Matt to go on and score 2 more goals, giving him a hatrick, fantastic play!
It wasn’t just the out-field players who played well, Tom the goalie made some very brave and outstanding saves, getting him voted man of the match. Very well done Tom!
John and Andy our manager and assistant, have made sure that Rangers U12’s, go up into the premier division for next season, and last weekend they came third overall, and won the coveted ‘Fair Play Award’ in the Devon Tournament, for the second year running – congratulations from all, I’m sure!
Sunday 29th March 09
Penkridge Juniors Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 1-0 to Penkridge Juniors
Superb team effort lads, very exciting game. Both teams being very evenly matched in the first half, with no real dangerous attempts on goal at either end.
The second half started again with both sides still very determined for such an important game. For a lot of the mid section of the second half Rangers had a slight edge and took the game more into the Juniors half. Again it was such a tightly fought match, with no real chances allowed by either team on goal. However, it was becoming more apparent that it would probably be the team to make the first real mistake, that would lose out! Sadly, it was Rangers in the 55th minute who didn’t quite defend the last corner of the game, tightly enough. Luckily for the Juniors it fell 3 yards out for the captain to strike home. Terrible luck Rangers, but ‘that’s football’ as they say!
Man of the Match – Josh Vandy’, well played Josh!
Sunday 22nd March 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Stafford Rangers X1
Final Score 4-1 to Stafford Rangers FC
Yet again another great team effort by Rangers FC! Initially both teams were very evenly matched until a spectacular opening goal by Josh Bright with a superb overhead kick in the 23rd minute! Again after this both teams were quite evenly matched to end the first half.
However 10 minutes in the second half Rangers X1 equalised with a cracking free kick which lobbed Tom Bailey. Both teams now knew it was game on! Rangers FC proved to be the most determined which paid dividends for them. Three more goals came in the space of 10 minutes Second goal for Rangers FC, a great lob from 20 yards out by Josh – his second goal. Third goal 5 minutes later, from Adam Bakewell with a great chip over the keeper. The last goal of the match came from Ads again with another superb finish. Well done Rangers FC!
Man of the Match – due to his hard work, Adam Bakwell!
Sunday 15th March 09
Stafford Rangers Juniors FC Vs Stafford Rangers FC (Friendly)
Final Score 8-2 to Stafford Rangers FC
Excellent score line lads! The last time we played them we lost 5-0! Vast improvement lads, well done! Despite going 1-0 down just after a quarter of an hour, you soon showed the Juniors who were really in charge.
Matty Downes opened the scoring for Rangers on 19 minutes, with a great finish an then the bubble burst for the Juniors as Rangers continually needled them as 4 more goals steadily followed – Ads, Matty (2 more to complete his hat-trick) and Jack Thomas with a good header just before half time.
Ten minutes into the second half the Juniors managed to get one back but that was as far as they got. Rangers soon stamped their authority back into the game and clearly ended any hopes the Juniors may of had of winning – 3 more tremendous goals came – Mike Milsom, Matty and Ethan Mould, all scoring. It truly was a great team effort!
Man of the Match – Jack Thomas, anchor man at the back! Well played!
Sunday 8th March 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs PSV Stone – League Shield Qtr Finals
Final Score 8-0 to PSV Stone
It was always going to be a very tough match and it was! PSV are at the top of the Premier League and a very technically skilled side. For the first 20 minutes Rangers were their equal and at times tested PSV. However, 3 goals came their way in the last 6 minutes of the first half.
With Rangers 3-0 down, PSV were on a high and managed to turn up the tempo – 5 more goals followed.
Bad luck Rangers you all tried hard!
Well done again Jack Thomas for gaining Man of the Match!
Sunday 1st March 09
Stafford Town Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 5-0 to Stafford Rangers
Another good, solid team performance leading to another great result. Rangers got off to a great start, with a brilliant up field pass from Adam Bakewell to Mike Milsom who took it with a half volley 20 yards out, into the top left corner. Goal 2 came 5 minutes later, when Ads took a free kick around 25 yards out and their keeper parried it out straight into the path of Mike who slotted it firmly home. Josh Bright scored goal number 3 on the 15 minute mark, when he followed up a rebounded shot from Ads, good goal. Two minutes later, left back James Clayton scored a cracking goal from a quickly taken corner, James whipped it in with a powerful left foot which lobbed everyone in the penalty area – including the keeper – what a goal! Final goal, number 5 came with a mistake by the goalie Matty Downs capitalised by beating him to the ball and hitting it across goal into the corner.
Surprisingly no goals came in the second half but Rangers managed to hold on for the victory.
Man of the Match – Mike Milsom. Well played Mike!!
Sunday 15th February 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Penkridge Juniors
Final Score 1-0 to Stafford Rangers FC
Congratulations Stafford Rangers, what a match, what a victory! This is the first time Penkridge Juniors have been beaten this season! The first half although goalless, was very exciting and dominated overall by the Rangers. It has to be said lads, you were firing on all cylinders today as a team, and even at the end of the first half you looked like winners with Penkridge looking, slightly rattled.
Then the second half started, just as well as the first half finished. Again lads, there are too many individual efforts to mention for the simple reason you all played so well, and as a team! Starting at the back, Tom the goalie, brave, some outstanding saves, one in particular midway through the second half, putting a shot around the post. The defence, solid, reliable, some great accurate clearances, both short and long. Midfield – always there, always picking up the ball and giving great, reliable supply up front . The lads at the front – always ready, picking up the ball and making some cracking runs on goal. Then in the 45th minute luck ran out for the Juniors, with Ethan Mould being brought down in their penalty area, it looked a penalty, and it was given. Ethan stepped up for it, and slotted it home in the bottom left corner – text book style – great penalty. Penkridge really only came close to scoring once, hitting Rangers bar, they played well and hard, but not as well, or as hard as Rangers! Stunning win lads!
Man of the match going to the ever-dependable, Jack Thomas. Fantastic effort Jack.
Sunday 1st February 09
Stafford Rangers FC Vs Newcastle Rovers
Final Score 1-0 to Newcastle Rovers
Well lads, it has to be said - what a cruel result! You fought long and hard against a bigger more physical side – a side who were very fortunate, it has to be said, not to have had more decisions against them. There was some great team play and some great individual efforts, to many to mention. You tried all avenues, running the wings with some tremendous crosses and then other times passing up the middle, doing so well most of the time to get past a very big defence – with the ball just not going in! You so deserved a draw and equally, if luck had been on your side, a win!
It was a very exciting and entertaining match and despite their goal coming in the 53rd minute, our goal keeper Tom Bailey can hold his head high, making some excellent saves. One spectacular save in particular coming from a hard, bullet shot going in the top right corner but Tom tipped it over the bar. However, individual team player was deservedly Mike Milsom.
Man of the Match – Michael Milsom. Well done Mike!
Sunday 25th January 09

Stafford Rangers got off to a great start with the 1st goal being scored within the first 5 minutes by Matty Downes – great goal!
Rangers continued the fight with goal number 2 coming around 20 minutes later – although this was an own-goal, it was created by the continued pressure Rangers were putting on Stafford Town.
The first half concluded with Callum Jones scoring the 3rd goal – another great goal!
Again, the second half was pretty much dominated by Rangers – although Stafford Town made some great shots on goal, with some of them unluckily hitting the post and crossbar. Their efforts were admirable.

Wheaton Aston Juniors Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Final Score 7-3 to Stafford Rangers
Despite the score, Wheaton Aston got off to a great start, scoring within 30 seconds from the off!
With our lads rattled, the pressure was now on. The worry was short lived with Matty Downes scoring a cracker, just over 10 minutes later. Soon after this he squared off an unselfish ball, across goal, for Josh Bright to slot home. Two more goals followed - Josh and Matty scoring again, with half time approaching.
However, Rangers backed off, and W.A.Jrs pushed on, scoring 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
After a good team talk, Rangers played a blinder in the second half with James Clayton scoring a left foot screamer, Mike Milsom a great half volley and Matty scoring another, completing a hat-trick, to round up the 7-3 victory for Rangers! Great all round play from Adam Bakewell making him Man of the Match.
Sunday 9th November 08

Final Score 3-3
Well, first off, what a great game with a remarkable second-half comeback from our lads!
Some great all-round play from both teams, which saw the Juniors 1-0 up at the end of the first-half.
Again, the second-half started with a determined effort from our lads but with just over 10 minutes to go, a strong Juniors side had scored another 2 goals and we were 3-0 down.
Game over?….not so! After a succession of pressing teamwork, Team Captain Ethan Mould was awarded a definite penalty, which he promptly blasted home!
With less than 10 minutes to go Ethan Mould ‘cracked in’ another blistering shot, then Matty Downes - with some great footwork – scored the 3rd for a classic comeback.
Great all round team effort.
Man of the Match – Ethan Mould
Sunday 21st September
Stafford Rangers Juniors Vs Stafford Rangers FC
Our first game of the 2008/09 season got off to a great start with a 6 – 2 win away from home against Stafford Rangers Juniors at Tillington Manor.
Good attacking play down the right hand side resulted in an unlucky deflection for the first goal to put us 1-0 up, Juniors then pressed and levelled just before half time.
Juniors move ahead shortly after the re start but superb goals from Adam Bakewell, Josh Bright, and a hat trick from Matty Downes completed the day after an excellent second half display by the Rangers.

Rocester then began to press and were rewarded with 2 goals and a 3-2 half time lead.
The second half saw plenty of chances for both sides but it was Callum Jones goal that managed to secure a point for Rangers in an end to end affair.
