U17s Youth Match Reports - Season 2008-2009

 Sunday 16th November

Shotfield Rangers 1 Stafford Rangers 3. under 17s

Rangers maintained their unbeaten league record when they emerged from a tough contest against Shotfield with maximum points. In a tight affair Rangers started brightly and after several probing moves into the Shotfield defence they eventually broke the deadlock when Jack Hepple burst through to hit a fine left footed finish. Rangers were then pushed back for the remainder of the half by some determind play from Shotfield who deservedly drew level just before the break. Rangers were given a life line with virtually the last kick of the half when they were awarded a penalty, however the keeper made a fine save. Second half was end to end and it was Rangers who took the lead when a fine move was capped off by Yohance McFarlane after he was but through by Ryan Hodson. The victory was completed 10 minutes from time when Hepple swapped passes with Sean Southall to finish confidently.


2nd November 2008

Stafford Rangers 2 Blythe Bridge 0 Under 17s Youth

Rangers under 17s gave a disciplined performance when they over came league leaders Blythe Bridge on Sunday. Blythe Bridge pressed from the start but Rangers hung on in and towards the end of the first half started to find their feet. The 2nd half was a totally different affair when after a change of formation and personnel Rangers started to carve out goal scoring opportunities. They took the lead when substitute Ryan Hodson played in Jack Hepple to finished in off the post. The game continued to be an end to end affair and the Rangers back line led by the outstanding Mike Jones held firm, and despite being reduced to ten men they clinched victory when Hepple sprinted clear to slot under the Blythe Bridge goal keeper. The game was only marred by a serious looking injury to Rangers center half Joe Tinniswood and it is hoped a speedy recovery is on the cards.

Longton Harriers 1 Stafford Rangers 3 under 17s

Rangers under 17s remain unbeaten this season after a hard fought victory away at Longton. Rangers started brightly and pressed forward at every opportunity and were rewarded when Jack Hepple turned smartly to fire in a low drive. However, as half time approached they were indebted to goal keeper Adam Whitehouse who made a fine save to keep out Longton. Rangers controlled the early part of the second half and as the half progressed their domination brought further goals from firstly Sean Southall who tapped in from close range and then Hepple with his second put the game beyond Longtons' reach. Although the hosts pulled back a late goal the Rangers defence marshalled superbly by Jack Mantle held firm.

Stafford Rangers Under 17s 3 Stafford Town Under 18s 0

Rangers under 17s continued their fine start to the season when they overcame local rivals Stafford Town on Sunday. Rangers started very brightly and created early chances which they were unable to take, however it came as no surprise when Joe Tinniswood powered in a header from a Sean Southall cross.

The 2nd half continued in a similar vein although Town did create chances of their own, but the game was effectively killed off when Jack Hepple latched on to a fine Matt Kirkland through ball to easily beat the keeper. Joe Rogers completed the scoring when he was also allowed time to run through and slot home.

Norton United 1 Staffford Rangers 2 under 17s

Rangers under 17s were made to work very hard in their first league match of the season. They came up against a very committed Norton United in a very tight affair. At half time Rangers lead 1 nil thanks to Yohance MacFarlane's clinical finish from close range. In the 2nd half Norton came out a more determined side and pressed Rangers back and deservedly got an equaliser. Just as the match looked to be heading for a draw Rangers struck in the last minute when Jack Hepple rounded the goal keeper and stroked the ball home.

Stafford Rangers 4-3 Kids Grove u17’s

Stafford rangers kick started their season with a hard fought cup tie victory against a strong Kids Grove team. Rangers started slowly, but managed to get themselves ahead, when a nicely floated ball from Jack Hepple was met with a glancing header by Joe Rogers, leaving the keeper helpless. Kids grove equalised just after half time, but rangers got themselves back in front, with a close range effort by Sean Southall. Just before the final whistle, Kids Grove equalised again to take the game into extra time. Rangers started the first half of extra time the brighter, and were rewarded when Southall netted his 2nd of the game to make it 3-2. Kids Grove didn’t give up though and equalised with 5 minutes left. Rangers weren’t finished there though, and in the last minute of Extra time, Jack Hepple popped up with a winner, with a fine left foot strike.

St. Georges Warriors 1 v Stafford Rangers Juniors 5. under 16s.

Rangers under 16s brought the curtain down on a hugely successful season when they claimed the league title at St. Georges Warriors on Monday evening. After completing the cup and shield double Rangers new only a victory would clinch the league title. It didn't start well when after having dominated possession Rangers fell behind and then found the St. Georges keeper in fine form. However, just before half time Jason Bailey rifled home to bring Rangers level. The second half was totally dominated by Rangers and after Jack Hepple latched on to a goal keeping error Rangers never looked back. Jon Davey then rammed in number 3. Then Hepple calmly finished after a flowing move and shortly after completed his hat trick to finish the scoring. This game has topped a superb season for Rangers with an all round team effort with having the best defensive record and being top goal scorers in the league.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 St.Georges Warriors 2. under 16s

 

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s completed a League and shield double when they defeated Sutton based St. Georges Warriors in a thriller at Marston Road. St. Georges started the stronger and struck an early goal but to their credit Rangers got a foot hold in the match and equalised when Joe Rogers powered in a header from a Ryan Hodson free kick. Rangers dominated the remainder of the half and were rewarded when Jack Hepple got on the end of a five man move to slot home. Then Hepple again who out paced the defence to finish with ease. Early in the second half St. Georges pulled a goal back and although possession was shared the Rangers defense comfortably held on to ensure their second trophy of the season.


27th April 2008

Stafford Rangers 4 Sportsco 1. under 16s League Cup Final.

Rangers picked up their first silver ware of the season when defeating Sportsco in the Lichfield League Cup Final on Sunday. Rangers started strongly and Sportso were unable to cope with Rangers slick passing game. By half time the game was effectively finished when Cieron Burr with a close range volley and Jack Hepple with two left foot strikes gave Rangers a comfortable cushion. Hepple completed his hat trick with a close ranger header from a Josh Barnard cross and although Sportsco deservedly pulled a goal back a fine all round team performance gave Rangers the honours.

 

21st April 2008

Colron 1 Stafford Rangers Juniors3 unders 16s.

 Rangers won a dogged battle midweek when they played Colron boys. On a difficult pitch Ranges took an early lead through Ryan Hodson but despite all their efforts couldn't find a second goal, and, when Colron equalised it looked like their chance had gone. However, two goals in the last 5 minutes from Jack Hepple clinched a vital victory for title chasing Rangers.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 5 Erdington Star 0 Semi Final League Shield under

Rangers progressed to their second final of the season with a comprehensive victory over Erdington Star with goals from Ryan Hodson, Matt Kirkland with his first goal for the club, Jack Hepple, Joe Rogers and a solitary goal from Craig Grimley in the second half.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 Sutton United 0 under 16s

Rangers eased into the semi-final of the league shield when they completed dominated a strong Sutton United team. Rangers started brightly and took the lead when Jack Hepple flicked on a throw for Sam Hodgkinson to acrobatically finish from close range. By half time the game was effectively over when Hodgkinson hit his second and Jason Bailey hammered in a free kick. Rangers closed out the second half with ease limiting Sutton to long range efforts.


30th March 2008

Colron Boys 1 Stafford Rangers Juniors 2 under 16s

Rangers were involved in a tense semi final and narrowly scraped through against a spririted Colron team. Rangers dominated but for once their free scoring attack could not find the target. They found themselves a goal down at half time. The second half was again all Rangers and although they equalised when Joe Tinniswood struck from close range it took until the final minute of extra time before Craig Grimley put Rangers through with a fine individual strike.

Four Oaks Boys 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 5 under 16s

Rangers continued with their fine league form when they easily over came Four Oaks Boys. Totally dominant from the start Rangers won with goals from Sam Hodgkinson 2, Craig Grimley 2 and a single strike from Jack Hepple.


9th March 2008

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 Four Oaks 2 under 16s

Rangers under 16s remain top of the Lichfield League after a hard fought victory over Four Oaks. Although Rangers dominated the game they fell behind early on but came storming back with 3 goals, 2 goals from Joe Rogers and 1 from Jack Hepple. However Four Oaks quickly replied but Rangers held on for the victory.


2nd March 2008

Stafford Rangers Juniors 2 Sutton United 2 under 16s

Rangers came out of their latest league match with a well deserved point against a strong Sutton team. The visitors took the game to Rangers from the start and deservedly lead 1 nil at half time. To their credit Rangers piled forward in the second half and were rewarded with goals by Sam Hodginson and Ryan Hodson, but not to be denied Sutton struck a late equaliser and the spoils were shared.


24th February 2008

Sutton Town 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 9. under 16s League Shield 2nd round

Rangers completely dominated from start to finish and were rewarded with goals by Joe Rogers 3, Sam Hodgkinson 2, Steve McGann 2, Craig Grimley 2.


17th February 2008

Erdington Star 0 Stafford Rangers 5 under 16s

Rangers stretched their lead at the top of the Lichfield League with a comprehensive victory away to Erdington. Rangers effectively killed off the match after 20 minutes, thanks to a Jack Hepple hat trick. Steve McGann with his first for the club added another just before the break and the scoring was complete when Sam Hodgkinson curled in a 20 yard free kick.

Hundred Acre 1 - 4 Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s

Rangers were involved in a top of the table clash in the Lichfield League when they travelled to meet 2nd place Hundred Acre. In windy conditions both sides to their credit tried to get the ball down and play. Rangers took the lead when Josh Barnard crossed for Craig Grimley to finish at the far post. Rangers increased their lead in the 2nd half when the outstanding Jason Bailey nodded in a corner. Hundred Acre reduced the deficit but Ranges wrapped up the win with goals by Jack Hepple and Sam Hodgkinson.

Erdington Star Woodlands 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 6 under 16s

Rangers bounced back from their County Cup exit with a comprehensive victory away to Erdington Star. Rangers pressed from the start and won with goals from Ryan Hodson 2, Jack Hepple 2, Sam Hodgkinson and Matt Deane.

Boley Park 1 Stafford Rangers Juniors 1 (Boley win on penalties)

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s were involved in thrilling cup tie when they visited Boley Park in the County Cup on Sunday. In difficult conditions Rangers dominated possession and with a little more luck would have found themselves a head at half time instead of a goal down. The second half continued in a similar vein and Rangers equalised with 10 minutes remaing when Jack Hepple scored from close range. However it was not to be for Rangers when after a goal less extra time period Boley won the penalty shoot out.

Sutton Town 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 9 under 16s

Rangers under 16s returned to action after a long break when they faced Sutton Coldfield in the Lichfield League. Rangers dominated from start to finish and ran out comfortable 9 nil winners with goals from Jack Hepple 7, Ryan Hodson and Joe Rogers.

Walsall Wood 1 Stafford Rangers Juniors 6

In very muddy conditions Rangers progressed to the semi-final of the league cup with goals from Joe Rogers 2, Ryan Hodson 2, and a goal a piece from Cieran Burr and Sam Hodginkson.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 Bradwell Bombers 0 under 16s

 

Stafford Rangers under 16s eased in to the next round of the County Cup with a victory over Newcastle based Bradwell Bombers. In difficult conditions Rangers won thanks to a Jack Hepple hat trick and a fine defensive display

Stafford Rangers Juniors 2 Erdington Star 1 under 16s

Stafford Rangers under 16s had a narrow victory when defeating Erdington Star. Despite having all the possession Rangers found themselves a goal down at half time and it took all their determination to secure victory with goals by Jack Hepple and Sam Hodgkinson.

Brownhills Reds 0 Stafford Rangers Juniors 4 under 16s – Staffs County Cup

Rangers eased into the next round of the County Cup putting four goals past Brownhills in a game they totally dominated. Rangers goals came from Craig Grimley, his first for the club, Cieran Burr, and 2 from midfielder turned defender Jack Mantle, son of Gnosall legend Gary.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 Colron Boys 0

Rangers continued their unbeaten start to the season when they defeated Colron in a bad tempered affair on Sunday. Rangers kept their composure and won with goals from Sam Hodgkinson a Joe Rogers penalty and a first of the season for Matt Deane. Great credit must go to the Rangers back line and also Goal Keeper Adam Whitehouse who gave a first class display and faultless all afternoon.

Stafford Rangers Under 16s 3 Erdington Star 1

 

Rangers kept up their 100% league record when they defeated Erdington Star on Sunday. Rangers controlled most of the possession and won thanks to two goals from Jack Hepple and a Jason Bailey header.

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s 2 Hundred Acre 0

Stafford Rangers under 16s produced a solid team performance when defeated a resolute Hundred Acre team. In difficult windy conditions the first half was an even affair with very few chances. However the second half Rangers totally dominated and deservedly took the points thanks to a Jon Davey pile driver and a Joe Rogers penalty.

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s had a comfortable victory on Sunday in the Lichfield Recreational League when they beat newly promoted SuttonTown 9 nil.In windy conditions Rangers dominated from start to finish and won thanks to a hat trick each from Jack Hepple and Sam Hodgkinson. Two for Ryan Hodson and a first for the Club by Josh Barnard.

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 16s 4 St. Georges Warriors 1

Rangers started their season brightly with a comfortable victory against a hard working St. Georges team. Two goals from Sam Hodgkinson and one a piece from Jack Hepple and Ryan Hodson gave Rangers their first 3 points of the season.

Stafford Rangers Juniors 5 Hundred Acre 2

 

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 15s completed a magnificent cup double when they added the league shield to last weekends Lichfield League Cup victory. Against a strong Aldridge based Hundred Acre Rangers fell behind within the first five minutes. But to their credit came storming back and by half time lead 5-1 after goals from Jamie Crosby, Jon Davey and a Jack Hepple hat trick. In the second half Rangrs defended superbly and although Hundred Acre pulled a goal back the final result was never in doubt.


League Cup FInal: 22nd April 2007

Stafford Rangers Juniors 3 Huntington Swifts 1

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 15s captured their first silver ware of the season when defeating Huntington Swifts in the League Cup Final at Beacon Park. Rangers gave a dominat first half performance and deservedly lead 1 nil at the break, thanks to a rocket of a shot from Jon Davey. In the second half Rangers were indebted to some fine defending from their back four, who held a physical Huntington side at Bay. Rangers increased their lead when Jon Bell clinically headed in a Sam Hodgkinson corner and the game was over when Hodginkson curled in a superb third goal and although Huntington score late the result was never in doubt,

Colron Boys 2 – 5 Stafford Rangers JFC

Rangers marched into their second final of the season when they overcame a strong Colron team. On a difficult hard pitch Rangers found themselves behind but Jon Davey equalised before half time. A disputed penalty early in the second half gave Colron the lead but Rangers stormed back with second half strikes from Cieron Burr, Jack Hepple, Sam Hodgkinson and Ryan Hodson. This was a fine all round team performance from the whole squad in very hot conditions.

Boldmere Falcons 1 - 5 Stafford Rangers Juniors

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 15s were back in league action against a hard working Boldmere Falcons. Rangers dominated from the start and at half time lead 4 nil thanks to Jack Hepple, Ryan Hodson and two headers from Joe Rogers. The second half followed in a similar vein and the hardworking Rogers completed his hat trick with a clinical finish. And although Boldmere pulled a goal back late on Rangers held out comfortably.

Stafford Rangers JFC 6 - 3 Sutton United

Staffford Rangers Juniors under 15s were involved in a thrilling Lichfield League Cup semi-final with unbeaten league leaders Sutton United. Rangers were slow out of the blocks and quickly found themselves 2 nil down. To their credit Rangers never gave up and Joe Rogers produced a close range finish and a fine individual goal to level before half time. However goal keeper Adam Whitehouse must also take some credit with a magnificent point blank save. In the second half Rangers tore into Sutton and Jason Bailey popped up from a Sam Hodgkinson corner to score his first goal for the club. Rangers were at this stage rampant and when strikers John Davey and Jack Hepple clinically finished the game was out of Suttons' reach. Although the visitors pulled a goal back Jonothon Bell rounded off a fine all round team performance leaving Sutton to face their first defeat in almost 3 seasons. Final score 6-3

Starland St Annes 2 - 4 Stafford Rangers JFC

Stafford Rangers Juniors under 15s faced a real battle when trying to progress to the quarter finals of the Lichfield League Cup. Against a spirited Aldridge based Starland St. Annes, Rangers found themselves a goal down early on but to their credit battled back to equalise through Jack Hepple. St. Annes started the second half strongly and again took the lead, but Rangers stepped up a gear and eventually went through after two goals from Liam Wood and a close range header by Joe Tinniswood. Final score 4-2.


28th January 2007

Stafford Rangers JFC 6 – 1 Boldmere Falcons

Rangers progressed easily into the next round of the Lichfield League Shield when they came up against Boldmere Falcons. Rangers led 3-0 at the break with goals from Jack Hepple, Jon Davey and Ryan Hodson. Rangers continued to dominate and although Boldmere scored a late consolation, Hodson completed his hat-trick and captain Joe Tinniswood also got on the score sheet.

Huntington Swifts 1 – 3 Stafford Rangers JFC

Rangers produced their best performance of the season when they progressed to the quarter finals of the Staffordshire County Cup. Against a physical Huntington outfit, Rangers found themselves a goal down but just before half time John Davey hit a wonder strike from 20 yards to equalise. Rangers carried on where they left off in the second half and goals from Liam Wood and Joe Rogers sealed the victory. This was a fine all round performance from Rangers who defended at times with a great deal of courage and Huntington could not cope with their attacking options.

Stafford Rangers JFC 5 – 2 Wednesbury Boys

Rangers eased their way into the next round of the Staffs County Cup when they overcame a resilient Wednesbury Boys team. Despite falling behind early on, Rangers picked up the pace and Joe Rogers deflected in a Jamie Crosby cross shot. John Davey then gave Rangers a half time lead. The second half continued in a similar vein and the tie was put beyond Wednesbury with goals by Ryan Hodson, Danny Mills and a spectacular John Davey strike. Credit to Wednesbury who pulled a late goal back but it was Rangers who progressed.

Chase Town 1 – 4 Stafford Rangers JFC

Rangers travelled away and saw off a spirited challenge from Chase Town to ease into the next round of the Lichfield League Shield. Ryan Hodson gave Rangers a half time lead. And although Chase Town equalised early in the second half, two goals from John Davey and yet another header from Jonothan Bell sealed the victory.

Erdington Star 2 – 7 Stafford Rangers JFC

Stafford Rangers JFC under 15s gave their best attacking performance of the season so far when they defeated Erdington Star this weekend. Two goals each from Jack Hepple, Jon Bell and Danny Mills plus a header from Joe Rogers helped Rangers to a comprehensive 7-2 away victory.

Rangers progressed to the next round of the County Cup but not without a struggle. They took the lead with a sensational long range Ryan Hodson volley and when Jack Hepple clinically finished, midway through the second half, the tie looked safe. However, Four Oaks pulled a goal back and it wasn't until Danny Mills headed in during the final minute, that the tie was clinched

Stafford Rangers JFC 2 – 1 Erdington Star

Rangers kept up their 100% winning start to the season when they defeated Erdington Star in the Lichfield League. Rangers started strongly and created numerous opportunities and only fine goal keeping kept them out. It was Rich Penwright who put Rangers one up at the interval when he ran on to a through ball and scored. The second half carried on in a similar vein and substitute Jack Hepple slotted home when the Star defence was again split open. Although Erdington pulled a late goal back, Rangers defence held firm for a 2-1 victory.

Stafford Rangers JFC 2 – 1 Erdington Star Woodlands

Rangers kept up their 100% start to the season with yet another hard fought victory, this time against Erdington Star Woodlands. In a first half totally dominated by Rangers the Erdington defence was only breeched when captain Joe Tinniswood finished from close range following a Jamie Crosby corner. The Erdington keeper made four outstanding saves to keep his team in the game at the interval. The second half was a much tighter affair and Erdington equalised with a long range effort. Ryan Hodson won it for rangers with a clinical finish five minutes from time. This was yet another outstanding defensive performance by Rangers and it is only a matter of time before their fluent attacking style brings the goals it deserves.
